Obverse

Large even cross with expanded ends, with symmetrical decoration at the bottom in the form of acanthus leaves. Above the transverse arm are the initials ІС - ХС.

Reverse

Variant A. Tsar Ioan Asen, standing, with stemma with pendilia. He is dressed in divitision and maniakion. Across his chest and left arm is draped a loros. In His right hand He holds a sceptre with a cross, with a short handle, and in His left - an object with unclear depiction, most likely a globus cruciger or anexikakia. On both sides of the figure are monograms: Ѿ and the abbreviation of the title царъ - ЧР. Variant B. The depiction is as in Variant A, but the figure of the ruler is shown to the waist.
