Obverse
Variant A. Large isosceles cross with transverse hastes at the ends of the arms. In the upper segments are inscribed the initials ІС - ХС. At the lower part the cross is additionally decorated with symmetrically arranged acanthus leaves of various shapes. Sometimes the cross is further outlined with dots. Variant B. Large isosceles cross with expanded ends, with symmetrical decoration at the lower part in the form of acanthus leaves resembling an anchor. Above the transverse arm are inscribed the initials ІС - ХС.
Reverse
Variant A. Tsar Ioan Alexander, standing, full-length, with stemma with pendilia. He is dressed in divitision and maniakion. The end of the loros is thrown over His left arm. In His right hand He holds a sceptre with a cross with a short handle, and in His left - anexikakia. To the left of the figure is a monogram composed of the letters АЛЄ, and to the right the abbreviation of the title tsar - Ϥ. Variant B. Stylized schematic figure of the tsar. Without inscriptions.
