Obverse

Model of the fortress wall of the city of Tarnovo with three towers and an arched gate. On both sides of the image are the letters Т - Р, and below it НВ. Numerous variants of the representation of the Tarnovo fortress are known. Often the towers are strongly expanded at the top. Correct spelling of the city's name is very rare. Usually the letter В is replaced with Н or Н.

Reverse

Tsar Ioan Alexander and his son Michael Asen, standing, full-length, with stemmata with pendilia, divitision, maniakion, and loros, holding between them a labarum with a long handle. Their free hands are placed before their chests in a sign of humility. In the left field is inscribed М/А and the title Ϸ (царь), and in the right - ΙѠ/АЛЄ and again the title Ϸ (царь). Inscriptions are often incomplete.
