Obverse

Variant A. Large equal-armed cross with expanded ends, outlined with lines of equal thickness, bifurcated at the lower end. In the center are granular lines. Above the transverse arm are the initials ІС - ХС, and below Н - К. Variant B. The image is as in Variant A, but in the center there is a row of dots. Often the inscription is in negative.

Reverse

Variant A. Tsar Ioan Alexander, standing, full-length, with stemma with pendilia. He is dressed in divitision and maniakion. The end of the loros is thrown over His left hand. In His right He holds a high sceptre with a cross, with a long handle, and in His left a globus cruciger. On both sides of the figure are monograms: Ѿ and Ф (царъ). Variant B. The image is as in Variant A, but the ruler holds in His right hand a sceptre with a cross, with a short handle. The monograms have exchanged places, with Ѿ in negative.
