Shishman dynasty
Belaur
Brother of tsar Michael III Shishman Asen and of Keratsa Petritsa. A despot and lord of Vidin who around 1331 raised a boyar revolt against his nephew tsar Ivan Alexander in defence of the deposed line of Ivan Stefan.
Biography
Belaur was a son of the Vidin despot Shishman, and a brother of Tsar Michael III Shishman Asen and of Keratsa Petritsa. He bore the title of despot and governed Vidin — the family's appanage — after his brother became tsar at Tarnovo.
After the coup of 1330–1331, which deposed the line of Ivan Stefan (the son of Michael III) and raised up Ivan Alexander, Belaur declared himself against the new tsar. Around 1331 he raised a boyar revolt in Vidin in defence of the deposed line — one of the serious internal upheavals at the start of Ivan Alexander's reign.
