Shishman dynasty

Michael

A despot, son of tsar Michael III Shishman Asen, known only from the donor inscription in the church of Donja Kamenica, where he is depicted with his wife.

Biography

Michael bore the title of despot and was a son of Tsar Michael III Shishman Asen.

He is known almost solely from the donor inscription in the church at Donja Kamenica (on the Serbian-Bulgarian borderland), where he is depicted together with his wife — a rare pictorial witness to a secondary member of the royal house, surviving in the fresco of a remote provincial church.
