Biography
Michael Asen was a son of the panhypersebastos Isaac Asen and a brother of Andrey Asen, of the grand primikerios Andronikos, and of Irene Asenina Philanthropene.
The sources mention him above all in connection with the diplomatic-military mission carried out together with his brother Andrey: at the start of 1355 the two brothers were sent by Emperor John V Palaiologos to the Morea to remove from there Despot Manuel Kantakouzenos.
