Irene Asenina Philanthropene

Irene Asenina was a daughter of the panhypersebastos Isaac Asen — probably from his second marriage — and a sister of the grand primikerios Andronikos, of Andrey, and of Michael Asen. Through her marriage she entered the noble Byzantine family of the Philanthropenoi.

Together with her brother Andronikos she inherited part of the family holdings, among them the rights over the monastery of the Virgin that had once belonged to her father's first wife. Her name surfaces in the lawsuit of 1351 over the fate of this monastic property.
