Why it matters
One of the earliest Bulgarian royal documents to survive, and a fixed point for the chancery's own spelling of the dynasty's name: it writes Асѣнь, against the many mangled forms — Assanus, Azenus, Arsenus — that Western documents produce.
It is also one of the four charters, with the Virgino, Mraka and Rila acts, in which the title севаст appears. Those four together are the basis for almost everything that can be said about the Bulgarian aristocracy's ranks.
