Text and translation

Why it matters

A dated building inscription from the fortress above Stanimaka, opening "In the year 6739, indiction 4" — 1231 — and naming Asen tsar "of the Bulgarians and the Greeks and the other lands".

With the Boženishki inscription it is one of the two stone texts that carry substantial information rather than merely attesting that a title existed. The imperial style it uses, a year after Klokotnitsa, is the same claim the Tarnovo column makes: that the victory had changed what Bulgaria's ruler was entitled to call himself.
