Bdin Miscellany

A book made at Vidin, for a named woman, at the moment Vidin was becoming a separate realm. It is the clearest surviving evidence that the breakaway northwest had its own literary court and was not simply a province drifting out of Tarnovo's orbit.

Its colophon hails Ivan Sratsimir as "self-ruling tsar of Bulgarians and Greeks". Bozhilov reads that as court flattery rather than a description of his actual standing — the title Sratsimir gave himself in his own Brașov charter is the plainer Иванъ Срацимиръ Царъ владеющи.
