Obverse
Large monogram of the family name Shishman - Щ, composed of the letters Ш and А. Some authors see in this stylized image the fortress gate of the city of Tarnovo.
Reverse
Tsar Michael Shishman, on the right, with beard and mustache, and his son John Stefan, full-length, with stemmata with pendilia, hold between them a cross with a long handle. They are dressed in divitision and maniakion. Through their belts are girded loroi, whose ends fall on both sides of the cross. Their free hands are placed before their chests. Circular inscription on both sides: МИХАНЪ - IWAN. The ruler's hand, around whose figure Michael is inscribed, holds the handle of the cross higher.
