Biography

Tamara was a daughter of Tsar Ivan Asen II, named among the royal daughters in the Synodikon of Boril. According to Akropolites she was considered as a wife for Michael Palaiologos — the future Byzantine emperor Michael VIII — but this marriage never came about.

Tamara remained unmarried for an unusually long time: by the date of the early marriage of her younger sister Anna-Theodora (1253) she was already 25–30 years old and still without a husband. The sources report nothing further about her later fate.
