Biography

Alexander Asen belonged to the third generation of the Byzantine Asens, born probably around 1320–1325; his exact place in the family tree remains undetermined. He lived in Constantinople, in the Kynegos quarter.

He is known chiefly as the founder of a mixed Byzantine-Venetian branch: his daughter was Irene Asenina, and through her his grandson Marco de Bernardo Asen, who was already of age in 1395.
