Asens in Byzantium
Theodora Asenina Ghisi
An Asenina married to the Venetian Bartolomeo III Ghisi, lord of Tinos, Mykonos and a third of Negroponte; mother of Giorgio III Ghisi, the last of the line. Her exact place in the pedigree is undetermined.
Biography
Theodora Asenina, whose membership of the Asen family is beyond doubt, married Bartolomeo III Ghisi — the Venetian lord of the islands of Tinos and Mykonos and of a third of Negroponte (Euboea). She is the mother of Giorgio III Ghisi, the last representative of this Venetian dynasty in the Aegean.
Theodora outlived both her husband and her son. After the death of Giorgio III (1390) without heirs, the greater part of the Ghisi domains passed to Venice. Theodora died shortly before 21 May 1398, possessing her own estates and a considerable sum of money; with her death the last remnants of the Ghisi inheritance too became Venetian.
