Biography

Anna Komnene Doukaina Palaiologina Asenina was a daughter of the protostrator Theodore Synadenos and the wife of Despot Manuel Asen, whom she married in December 1321. Through this marriage the Synadenos family was bound to the Byzantine branch of the Asens.

Together with her husband she is depicted in a donor portrait in the typikon of the Constantinopolitan monastery of the Virgin; her kinship ties secured for Manuel Asen estates around Bizye, legitimised as an appanage in the mid-fourteenth century.
